Yeading sits right beside Hayes, so a failing clutch here is a short hop to our Chesterfield Way garage, where we diagnose the fault and explain the repair first.
If your car is parked on a Yeading driveway and the pedal is giving you trouble, you are probably wondering whether you can still drive it. A clutch that is only slightly worn can often make a short trip. One that slips under load or will not release properly is another matter.
We are a family-run independent garage just along from Yeading at Chesterfield Way in Hayes, repairing cars and vans of all makes and models. We look at the fault, explain it in everyday words, recommend what to do and give a clear estimate before any work is started.
Pay attention to the pedal first. If the biting point has moved up near the top, or you must rev harder to move off, the plate is wearing thin. A shudder as you let the pedal out suggests a glazed or contaminated plate, or a worn flywheel face. Difficulty selecting gears, especially first and reverse when stopped, can come from a clutch that is not fully releasing. Whining, grinding or a rumble that changes with the pedal can mean a failing release bearing. None of these gets better by itself.
We do not replace just the worn plate. A proper clutch kit replacement covers the friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing, all fitted new at the same time. The reason is simple: the gearbox has to be separated from the engine to get at them, and any old part left in place could fail soon after. If your engine has a dual mass flywheel, we inspect it for play and heat marks, and dual mass flywheel replacement is advised when it is worn, because it works hand in hand with the clutch.
A clutch pedal that sinks, feels soft or will not rise can be caused by the hydraulic circuit. The master cylinder is operated by your foot, and the slave cylinder moves the release mechanism at the gearbox. When their seals fail, fluid leaks out and the clutch cannot disengage. Replacing one of those cylinders is a more modest repair than a full clutch, so it is worth getting the diagnosis right. We also look at the pipes, hoses and pedal linkage, because a loose fitting or broken part can give the same symptoms.
Yeading is a residential neighbourhood next to Hayes, beside Yeading Brook, with 1930s and post-war housing and a mix of driveways and street parking. We cover Yeading and work with drivers from Northolt, Hillingdon and Southall as well. Because we are so close, many local drivers can ring us with a symptom, get an honest view on whether to drive in or not, and then arrange a time that suits. Please tell us the make, model and what the clutch is doing.
We also help drivers with clutch replacement from nearby Hayes, Northolt, Hillingdon, Southall, and the garage in Hayes is the base for all of it.

Sometimes, but it is a gamble. A clutch that slips or will not release fully can leave you stuck at a junction. If the pedal has gone to the floor, do not drive it; ring us and we will advise on the safest way to get it here.
Common causes are an oil leak contaminating the plate, a glazed friction surface, a worn dual mass flywheel or damaged engine and gearbox mountings. We inspect the clutch and surrounding parts to find which, so the right thing gets repaired.
Yes. We work on cars and vans of all makes and models. Vans often see heavy loads and repeated stop-start use, which is hard on a clutch, so tell us the model and how it is used.
