Tuning only works well on an engine that is healthy, so we start by looking at your vehicle, talking through what you want from it and explaining what is realistic before anything is changed.
Get more from your vehicle with professional engine tuning and performance services from MTS Garage Services in Hayes.
Modern vehicle engines are controlled by sophisticated electronic systems that manage fuel delivery, ignition timing, turbocharger operation and other performance-related functions.
Depending on the vehicle and its mechanical condition, carefully selected tuning solutions may improve throttle response, power delivery and overall driving characteristics.
At MTS Garage Services, we can discuss your performance goals, assess your vehicle and help determine which tuning options are suitable.

Every modern engine is run by a control unit that reads sensors for air flow, throttle position, engine temperature and more, then decides how much fuel to inject and when to fire the spark on a petrol engine. On a turbocharged engine it also sets how much boost the turbo is asked to build. All of this is stored as maps of numbers written by the manufacturer. ECU remapping means altering some of those numbers so the engine behaves differently, for example in how it responds to the throttle. Makers have to build in a margin to cope with poor fuel, hot climates and neglected servicing, which is why changes are possible at all. What suits one vehicle may not suit another, so we talk through your driving first.

A remap does not repair anything. If an engine already has a weak ignition coil, a leaking boost hose, a worn injector, a clogged filter or a tired turbo, changing the maps will usually make the problem more obvious rather than hide it, and it can put extra strain on parts that are already struggling. That is why a health check comes before any tuning conversation. We read fault codes, look at live data, check servicing history and inspect the obvious wear items. Petrol, diesel and turbocharged engines each have their own weak points, so what we look at differs. If something needs fixing, we tell you plainly, explain what it involves and give a clear estimate before repairs begin.
Any tuning has to suit the vehicle and its condition, and it must comply with emissions and road-use rules. Nothing we discuss involves taking off or defeating emissions equipment. Think about the paperwork too. A manufacturer may have views on modified software, particularly if the vehicle is still under a maker's cover or an extended plan, so read your terms or ask the dealer before going ahead. Your insurer must be told about any change to engine output, and failing to do so can cause problems with a claim later. Ask the insurer in writing how it affects your policy before you commit. We are happy to talk you through these questions so you can decide with confidence.
ECU Remapping Hayes means adjusting the software that runs your engine, and it only makes sense once we know the engine is healthy. Car Remapping Hayes starts with a conversation about how you drive. Petrol ECU Remapping Hayes and Diesel ECU Remapping Hayes each call for different checks, and we explain what suits your vehicle before you decide.
Read more →Stage 1 Remapping Hayes is the mildest level of software change, usually considered for a vehicle that is mechanically standard. It means adjusting the maps without fitting new hardware. We look at the condition of the engine first, talk through the rules and your insurer, and explain whether it suits your vehicle and how you use it.

The ECU is the computer that controls fuel delivery, ignition timing and, on turbo engines, boost pressure. Remapping rewrites some of the settings the manufacturer programmed, so the engine responds differently. The results depend on the engine, its condition and the software used, so we do not promise figures. We explain what is realistic for your vehicle first.
Yes. Tuning puts more demand on parts that may already be worn, and hidden faults such as a boost leak, a failing coil or a blocked filter can cause poor running or damage afterwards. We scan for fault codes, look at live data and check servicing first, then tell you plainly if anything needs doing.
You should. A change to engine output is a modification, and insurers expect to be told. If they are not, a claim could be affected. Contact your insurer before going ahead, ask how it changes your cover and keep their reply in writing. We cannot speak for your insurer, so check with them directly.
It can. Some manufacturers and extended plans have terms about modified software, so check yours or ask the dealer. Any tuning must also comply with emissions and road-use rules, and we only discuss work that does. If a change would not suit your vehicle or those rules, we will say so honestly.
