If your clutch is slipping, judders or feels wrong underfoot, our Hayes garage will find the cause first, explain what is worn and give you a clear estimate before any work begins.
A worn or failing clutch can make driving difficult and may eventually leave your vehicle unable to move.
At MTS Garage Services, we provide professional clutch diagnosis, repairs and replacement services for a wide range of cars and vans.
Common signs of clutch problems include slipping under acceleration, difficulty selecting gears, a high biting point, juddering when pulling away or unusual noises when operating the clutch pedal.
Our technicians can assess the symptoms, inspect the relevant components and advise whether a clutch repair or replacement is required.
If your clutch isn't operating correctly, contact MTS Garage Services in Hayes to arrange an inspection before the problem becomes more serious.

A clutch rarely fails without warning. The most common sign is slip: you press the accelerator, the revs climb, but the car does not pick up speed to match, which is often most obvious uphill or when overtaking. Others include a biting point that has crept up near the top of the pedal, juddering as you pull away, a pedal that feels heavy, spongy or stuck down, and trouble getting into gear, especially first and reverse. Rattles, whirring or grinding when the pedal is pressed can point to a worn release bearing. A burning smell after a hill start or heavy traffic is worth taking seriously. Tell us when each symptom happens, because that helps narrow down the cause.

A clutch replacement normally covers the friction plate, the pressure plate and the release bearing, usually supplied together as a kit. The gearbox has to come out to reach them, so it makes little sense to fit a new plate behind a worn pressure plate or bearing and then repeat the same labour later. Many modern cars and vans also have a dual mass flywheel, which contains springs and bearings that can wear, causing rattling at idle or shudder when pulling away. We inspect it while the clutch is out and tell you whether it can stay or should be replaced. We also look for oil leaks that could spoil the new clutch.
Not every clutch complaint is a worn clutch. Many vehicles operate the clutch hydraulically, using a master cylinder at the pedal and a slave cylinder at the gearbox, joined by a pipe full of fluid. If either one leaks or wears, the pedal can go soft, sink to the floor, or fail to release the clutch fully, so gears crunch or the car creeps forward with the pedal pressed. A low fluid level, damp patches near the pedal or gearbox, and a pedal that feels different from last week all point this way. Cable operated clutches can stretch or stick too. We check the hydraulics and pedal first, so you are not told you need a clutch the car does not need.
Slipping Clutch Repair Hayes covers cars and vans where the engine revs but the vehicle does not keep up. We road test, check for oil or fluid contamination and look at the pedal and hydraulics before recommending anything. If the clutch has simply worn out, Clutch Kit Replacement Hayes means fitting a matched plate, pressure plate and release bearing, with a clear estimate given before any repair begins.
Read more →Dual Mass Flywheel Replacement Hayes is for vehicles with a flywheel that rattles at idle, shudders when pulling away, or shows heat damage and wear once the gearbox is removed. Because the clutch and flywheel sit together, it is sensible to inspect the flywheel whenever a clutch is done. We explain what we find, whether it can be reused, and what is needed before we go ahead.
Read more →Clutch Hydraulic Repairs Hayes deals with pedals that feel soft, stick down or will not release the clutch properly. Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement Hayes and Clutch Slave Cylinder Replacement Hayes are the usual fixes when fluid is leaking or pressure is lost. We check the pipework and fluid, bleed the system after repair, and confirm whether the clutch itself is fine.

It is not advisable. A slipping clutch generates heat and wears faster, and it can suddenly stop driving the wheels at all, leaving you stranded or stuck in traffic. Slip also gets worse under load, such as towing or climbing hills. If you notice it, book an inspection soon and avoid hard acceleration until it has been looked at.
The gearbox must be removed to reach any of them, and most of the effort in the job is that removal. A new plate running against a worn pressure plate or tired release bearing wears quickly and may fail early. Replacing them together as a kit means the parts bed in together and you avoid repeating the same job.
Rising revs with no pickup point to the clutch itself, but a soft or sinking pedal, leaking fluid or difficulty selecting gears can come from the hydraulics, and a rattle at idle may be the flywheel. A road test and a pedal and fluid check usually separate these. We explain what we find before recommending work.
Yes. We work on cars and vans of all makes and models, including those with hydraulic or cable operated clutches. Tell us the make, model and symptoms when you get in touch so we can plan the inspection. Clutch work involves removing the gearbox, so let us know if you rely on the vehicle for your job.
