Cowley drivers with a slipping, juddering or heavy clutch can bring the car to our family-run Hayes garage and get a straight explanation of the fault and the repair before work begins.
A clutch rarely fails overnight. More often, a car in Cowley starts with a small change: the engine note rises a little more than it should on a hill, or first gear is slightly awkward. Weeks later it slips every time you ask for power. Noticing early gives you more options.
At MTS Garage Services, we are a family-run independent garage in Hayes, covering cars and vans of any make. We road test, inspect, tell you what the problem is, recommend the repair and give a clear estimate first. Clutch kit replacement is the answer in many cases, but not all of them.
Think about when each symptom appears. Slip shows up under load, such as overtaking or climbing a slope with passengers aboard. A high biting point means the pedal engages right at the top of its travel. Juddering tends to occur at low speed, moving off from rest. If the lever is stiff going into gear or the car creeps forward with the pedal pressed, the clutch is not releasing cleanly. Squeals and rumbles that appear when you press the pedal often implicate the release bearing, so note exactly when you hear them.
The friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing are renewed together in a clutch replacement. They all wear at the same rate, and reaching them means removing the gearbox, which is the bulk of the work. Fitting a new plate against a tired pressure plate is false economy. The dual mass flywheel, on cars that have one, is checked for excess play, scoring and heat marks, and replaced if it has had its day. We explain which parts are needed and why, so you can decide with the facts.
Clutch hydraulics rely on a master cylinder, a slave cylinder and the line joining them. Warning signs include a pedal that feels soft, sinks slowly or stays down, fluid loss, and trouble finding gears from cold that eases once you pump the pedal. We check for leaks and air, then test the cylinders. If one has failed, a master or slave cylinder replacement may well solve it without touching the clutch. Clutch hydraulic repairs are properly confirmed by testing and not by assumption, which is what we do.
Cowley is a residential area beside Uxbridge and Yiewsley, with older cottages and streets of 1930s and later housing close to the canal. We cover Cowley and work with drivers from Uxbridge, Yiewsley, Hillingdon and West Drayton as well as Hayes. If your car is still driveable but getting worse, call us and describe the symptoms so we can plan the visit. If it will not move at all, tell us that too, and we will talk through what to do.
We also help drivers with clutch replacement from nearby Uxbridge, Yiewsley, Hillingdon, West Drayton, and the garage in Hayes is the base for all of it.

Give us the make, model and age of the car, what the pedal does, whether it slips, judders or sticks, and any noises. Mention if the fluid level has been dropping. The more detail, the better our first guess will be.
Sometimes. If the pedal feel is the problem, the fault may lie in the hydraulics, a cable or an adjustment. A worn plate cannot be repaired, but we check for the cheaper possibilities first so you do not pay for work you do not need.
Many modern engines use a dual mass flywheel to smooth vibrations. It can wear, rattle or shudder, and a worn one hurts a new clutch. We inspect it whenever the clutch is out and recommend replacement only if it needs it.
