Osterley's green streets lead straight onto the A4 and the M4, and a failing clutch on those roads is no fun, so we help drivers sort out the cause and the cure.
Living in a leafy corner next to the Great West Road means many Osterley cars spend half their time in heavy traffic and half at motorway speeds. A clutch that slips on a slip road or judders in a queue can feel alarming, but the cause is often quite straightforward.
MTS Garage Services is a family-run, independent garage in Hayes. We look after cars and vans of all makes and models and we aim to be clear: what is wrong, what we recommend, and a clear estimate before we start. Here is how we approach a clutch complaint.
A worn clutch announces itself in different ways. Slip is a rev-happy engine and a flat response. A high biting point and a pedal that feels different from before are early hints. Judder happens when the plate grips unevenly. Gear selection problems, such as a crunch into reverse, suggest the clutch is dragging. Noise adds another layer: a whirr that stops when the pedal is released tends to be the release bearing. Give us as much detail as you can about speed, gear and engine temperature when it happens.
Think of the clutch as three working parts: a friction plate, a pressure plate and a release bearing. The gearbox is removed so they can be reached, and because the labour is in that removal, all three are replaced together. A worn bearing or tired pressure plate left behind could undo the repair. On engines with a dual mass flywheel, we inspect that too and say honestly whether it needs replacing. Our recommendation always comes with an explanation, and the decision is yours.
A clutch that will not release, a pedal that sinks or one that feels like stepping on a sponge may be a hydraulic fault. The master cylinder sits behind the pedal, the slave cylinder at the gearbox, and a pipe joins them. Leaks, air and worn seals cause most trouble. Sometimes the fault is nothing to do with the clutch assembly at all, which is why we test the system before recommending anything. Replacing a failed cylinder is generally a smaller job than a complete clutch kit.
Osterley is a leafy residential area in Hounslow borough beside the A4 Great West Road and the M4, close to the historic house and park. We cover Osterley and work with drivers in Hounslow, Heston and Hanwell as well as Hayes. If the clutch is slipping badly, ring first and tell us what is happening. We will talk about whether the journey to Chesterfield Way looks sensible or whether you should arrange recovery.
We also help drivers with clutch replacement from nearby Hounslow, Heston, Hanwell, and the garage in Hayes is the base for all of it.

Steady cruising puts little strain on a good clutch, but a slipping one can overheat when you accelerate hard to join traffic, which damages it further. If it slips, avoid heavy acceleration and get it inspected.
Most often air or a leak in the hydraulic system, such as a failing master or slave cylinder. It can also be a worn pedal bush or linkage. We test the system to find which before suggesting a repair.
No. The friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing are replaced as a set. A dual mass flywheel is only renewed if inspection shows it is worn, and we explain our reasons before you decide.
